GUIDED VISIT – 2H30’ – Walking itinerary
The historic centre of Pavia is a precious artistic gem holding a radical University culture, in fact is described “cultured”, since as early as 825 when was established a school of rhetoric by Emperor Lothair I. The route leads us to the Church Santa Maria del Carmine, exemplary Lombard Gothic architecture; in San Pietro in Ciel d’Oro, dating from the 7th century. A.D.in Lombards times, with the Ark shielding the remains of St. Augustine; the Visconti castle with the civic museums; Piazza della Vittoria, a large lounge upstairs and a large market underground; further on, Palazzo del Broletto, the Duomo, the University to get to the famous Covered Bridge over the river Ticino, which leads to the picturesque village of colorful houses on the banks of the river
