ESCORTED ROUTE BY BIKE FROM THE CITY TO ADDA RIVER ALONG THE NAVIGLIO (CANAL) MARTESANA – FULL DAY – KM. 27
The Martesana Canal is part of the milanese navigli system designed in the 15th century to which even Leonardo da Vinci worked and connects the city with the river Adda from which it receives the waters. The route starts from Cassina de Pomm in Milan and gets to Trezzo upon Adda, ours ends in Cassano for a total of around 25 Km.
The first short stop at the Chapel Oratory of San Mamete, already documented in the 13th century. hosts frescoes luinesca school; to continue along Alzaia Naviglio Martesana until Vimodrone with detour to discover some historical aspects of the modern town and come later in Cernusco appreciating the shrine along the Canal and the tangible signs of possessions of the powerful Milanese patrician families like the Melzi d’Eril. The route allows you to take part to the guided tours of the Sky Observatory : observation under the guidance of experienced amateur astronomers. Besides Cassina, Gorgonzola and Inzago with its magnificent villas; to get to Cassano with the linen and hemp National factory, Villa Borromeo and the famous “Rudun”, with a diameter of 11 mt, consisting of 8 blades and built by Carlo Borromeo in 1618, elevated water at street level allowing irrigation of the gardens
