Piazza Vecchia collects the glorious past of the Communal Age with Palazzo della Ragione, the Mayor and the Municipal Tower. And just behind the Cathedral of St Alexandre, the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore with the inlays made from designs by Lorenzo Lotto, the baptistery and the Colleoni Chapel gem of Giovanni Antonio Amadeo erected by the commander-in-chief Bartolomeo Colleoni as his family mausoleum, considered a masterpiece of Lombard Renaissance.
