A stroll through the old town to savour the beauty of the city and its historical and artistic wealth : Palazzo Ducale, which developed between the old Saint Peter’s Square (now Piazza Sordello) and the bank of Lake Inferiore, it was the residence of the Gonzaga family from 1328 to 1707, and today it houses precious works of art and collections including the famous Bridal Chamber by Mantegna. Saint Peter’s Duomo, Cathedral of Gothic origin, restored internally in 1545 on a project by Giulio Romano, while the façade of 1755 is in Baroque style. Piazza Broletto overlooks municipal buildings: Palazzo del Podestà, the municipal Tower, the Arch of the Arengario, Palazzo del Massaro. The basilica co-cathedral of Sant’Andrea, designed by Leon Battista Alberti, with dome of Juvarra and works by Mantegna, Correggio, Romano, shielding the precious Sacred Cups containing the blood of Christ.
