GUIDED VISIT – 2H30’ – Walking itinerary
The Cathedral, dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, stands on the site chosen by the Lombard Queen Teodolinda in 595 and completely rebuilt starting from 1300 in Gothic style; preserves the precious Iron Crown, in the Palatine Chapel of Theodelinda,used continuously for royal coronations from early Carolingians until Otto I and Otto III, Frederick Barbarossa, Charles IV, Frederick III of Habsburg, Charles V, Napoleon I and Ferdinand I of Austria.
Along the pedestrian thoroughfare we admire the churches St Mary Magdalene and St Teresa whose original building dates back to the 13th century and St. Mary on the Street built in the second half of the 14th century and restored in the 19th century. In the old town is also the Arengario, municipal building and civic center of power since the end of the 13th century. and from there by a walk of about 15 ‘ you get to the sumptuous Royal Villa with its magnificent gardens and parks, princely residence of Archduke Ferdinand of Austria, son of the Empress Maria Theresa
