COMO, MENAGGIO, TREMEZZO, BELLAGGIO, MINI-CRUISE, COMO – ESCORTED ITINERARY BY BUS + FERRY – FULL DAY
Como, historical gateway to the Alps, has been since Roman times the natural passage to reach the northern side of the Alps. Its historical and artistic value is attested to by the fine monuments in the city : the Duomo a great set of architectures that have occurred during construction (Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance); the Church of St. Abbondio, a magnificent example of Lombard Romanesque; the old town hall, the Broletto; the monument that celebrates the great comasco physicist Alessandro Volta, inventor of the battery. Menaggio, today a charming tourist village, was an ancient Merchant Centre and preserves a very pleasant historic heart and a parish church of Romanesque origin. Prior to boarding for Bellagio, emerges the spectacular Villa Carlotta built in 1690 cherishing precious sculptures (Canova), paintings (Hayez) and a beautiful park with Italian and English gardens. Bellagio, picturesque town, is located at the tip of the promontory that divides the Lake into two branches of Como and Lecco, with colorful houses, quaint alleys, ancient churches and luxurious villas – like Villa Melzi and Villa Serbelloni – where famous personalities (Napoleon, Listz, Emperor Franz I, Manzoni, etc) were hosted. From Bellagio by mini-cruise down to Como you can admire the numerous villas which have made Lake Como universally known : Villa Balbianello, Villa la Cassinella, Villa Oleandra, Villa Erker, Villa d’Este, etc.
